CV — WA LIU 刘娃

Wa Liu (b. 1994) is a multimedia artist who works in video, painting, installation and VR to explore the porous boundaries and power dynamics between humans and nature through a multispecies lens. She received her B.A. in Anthropology and Art with distinction from Yale University and her M.S. in Art, Culture and Technology from MIT. Her research-based videos weave together anthropology, global history and geopolitics into riveting and multisensory experiences, examining how human ambitions and technologies have shaped our planet, ourselves and our future. Her paintings, fantastical and suspenseful, intimately explore the relationship between humans and nonhumans, the uncanny discrepancy between the visible and the invisible, and the precarious threshold between wonder and peril. Inspired by neuroscience and posthumanism, her brainwave interactive installations reimagine the concept of human agency in a time when our longings and fears are predicted and affected by machines. Her diverse body of work questions the human-made boundaries among ourselves and seek to understand our place in the planetary ecosystem using all our senses.

Wa Liu received many honors, such as International Emmy Awards Young Creatives Award, Forbes 30 Under 30 List, Forbes China Most Influential Young Artists, Porsche Young Chinese Artist of the Year, Robb Report Young Artist of the Year, MIT Ida M. Green Fellowship. She participated in major international exhibits, including Busan Biennale, Guangzhou Triennial, and Beijing Biennial. Her works have been globally shown at prestigious institutions, such as MIT Museum, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, TANK Shanghai, Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Javits Convention Center of New York, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, M Woods Museum, Today Art Museum, etc. Her major solo shows include: Savage Confessions (Goethe-Institut Boston, 2022), Late Night Savage (Cc Foundation, Shanghai, 2021), Hear A Century Ahead (Former British Consulate, Shanghai, 2021), Glimpse (Asia Now, Paris, 2019), Glimpse: a passing look (Sabsay Gallery, Copenhagen, 2018).

刘娃（1994年）是一位跨学科艺术家，其创作探究人类、自然与机器之间相互渗透的边界和权力关系，并运用影像、绘画、装置、虚拟现实及写作为媒介。她毕业于耶鲁大学人类学与艺术双专业荣誉学士学位，麻省理工学院艺术文化与科技硕士学位。她透过多物种的视角，剖析人类的野心、地缘政治和科技正在如何改造整个地球和我们自己。她的绘画充满离奇的想象和悬念，善于捕捉日常生活中的荒诞不经、人与其他物种的联结、以及人类感知之外的未知维度。她对神经科学和后人类主义的浓厚兴趣，促使她创作脑电交互装置来重新想象人类的自由意志，追问我们所处的当下时代，机器对于人的欲望和恐惧的预测和影响。她多元化的艺术作品常基于研究式的思路，将人类学、科学与世界史交织成引人入胜的多感官体验。

刘娃曾荣获国际艾美奖青年创意奖、福布斯 30 under 30 榜单、保时捷中国青年艺术家、罗博报告年度青年艺术家奖、麻省理工学院 Ida M.
