Wa Liu (b. 1994) is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist working across video, painting, VR, and interactive installation to explore the porous boundaries and power dynamics between humans, nature, and technology. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Art with distinction from Yale University and an M.S. in Art, Culture, and Technology from MIT. Her research-driven, experiential artworks draw on multispecies ethnography, global history, and the pressing issues of the Anthropocene to examine the tension and entanglement between humans and nonhumans. Grounded in fieldwork, her videos investigate how human ambitions, military technologies, and geopolitics reshape our planet and ourselves. Through a luminous palette and spontaneous brushwork, her evocative and suspenseful paintings capture the agency of plants, animals, and insects as they navigate human-altered environments. Her neuroscience-informed interactive installations reimagine human agency in an era where technologies increasingly quantify and manipulate emotions and desires.
Wa Liu’s major solo shows include: MADLANDS (Long Museum, Shanghai, 2024), Savage Confessions (Goethe-Institut, Boston, 2022), Late Night Savage (Cc Foundation, Shanghai, 2021), Glimpse: a passing look (Sabsay Gallery, Copenhagen, 2018). She has received numerous accolades, including the International Emmy Awards Young Creatives Award, Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia and China Lists, Porsche’s Young Chinese Artist of the Year, and Robb Report’s Young Artist of the Year. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Long Museum and Guangdong Museum of Art, among other institutions, and have been exhibited globally at the Busan Biennale, Guangzhou Triennial, MIT Museum, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, TANK Shanghai, Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Minsheng Art Museum, and more.

刘娃（1994年生）是一位驻纽约的跨学科艺术家，创作涵盖影像、绘画、虚拟现实与交互装置，探讨人类、自然与科技之间渗透交织的边界和权力关系。她在耶鲁大学获得人类学与艺术双专业荣誉学士学位，在麻省理工学院获得艺术、文化与科技硕士学位。她独具研究性与体验性的创作融合多物种民族志、全球史以及人类世的紧迫议题，思考人类与非人类物种之间的较量与共生。她的影像作品根植于田野调查，探究人类的野心、军事科技和地缘政治正在如何重塑地球环境以及人类自身。她的绘画极具光感，笔触灵动，以悬念与张力捕捉动植物、昆虫等在被人类改造的环境中所展现出的能动性与生存状态。她基于神经科学的交互装置，在技术日益量化和操控人类情感与欲望的当下，重新想象人的能动性。
